How to fix frozen emergency brake cable on Toyota Matrix?
Unless you can see a physical brake in the emergency brake cable chances are it’s not frozen. It’s more likely that one of the rear shoes seperated from it’s metal backing. The shoe is now lodged in the drum which is simulating what you might think of as a frozen cable. Regardless of whether you have a seperated brake shoe or a frozen emergency brake there is no easy way to make the vehicle mobile. If you really don’t want to call a tow truck and can bear the cold long enough you can jack up the rear of the car, see which tire is stuck, remove the tire, remove the brake drum, and drive to the shop. (Some pounding on the brake drum required) The pedal will feel funny but the car will brake fine in the front…good enough to get it in for service. I don’t recommend this persay, in reality you should have the vehicle towed into the shop. If the cable itself was somehow exposed to water or the backing of the e-brake was exposed to water at the axle you can spray de-icer into/onto the line/
