In order to repair a computer yourself, one would have to understand how the components work together. If you are replacing the hard drive, that is a simple process. It is best to purchase software such as Norton Ghost and make a mirror image of your hard drive or you can backup important information to a tape or jump drive. There are even online storage facilities that allow you to back up your information. Before performing any work on the inside of the computer, make sure it is unplug and you have grounded yourself to prevent shorting out components. Remove the old hard drive and slide the new one in place. Re-attach with screws and connect the cable and the power cable (it is a series of wire with a white prong connection on the end).
