How to fit and show a market hog?
The more you work with the hogs the tamer they will be. The cane is to direct the hog to where you want it to go (not an easy task) If you’ve ever watched a hog show then you know not a single person has mastered this task. With that said the most important thing is to keep your hog between you and the judge as much as possible… lightly tap the pig with the cane in an attempt to get him where you’d like him to be. Ask your 4-H advisor or other Kids in the club that have taken hogs. They should be able to help you out. As far as grooming, make sure they are clean, it’s illegal to shave hogs at our fair (not sure on your rules) make sure their hair is brushed and neat looking! Have fun!
