How to dress for a “coat and tie” wedding in August?
In the south, your husband should wear either a white linen suit or a seersucker suit, if he has either. If not, linen pants and a navy blue blazer and tie would be fine. Definitely NOT a black suit! You should wear a nice, but conservative dress. I like linen or a linen blend (fewer wrinkles, but hey, that’s part of the “look”). Maybe if you’re slender, a knee-length, slightly flared dress with neck and shoulders bare. That looks elegant and refined, also very cool and comfortable. If the father’s that rich, and the reception is outside, he will probably have cool air provided. There are a number of ways this is done, so it most likely will not be as hot as you might think. Take a pretty wrap (shawl, or light cardigan) for the church. Talbot’s is a good store for this type of apparel and you probably could find a very nice dress for around $100 – $150 (maybe even less if you catch a sale.) If you can’t afford a new dress, just pick something nice that you own. Make sure your hair and
I have been through this one before!!! Unfortunatly, the answer is worse for your husband. He can wear a suit (not a tux) and I think it would be fine for him to wear light dress pants and a blazer. He can later take the jacket off at the reception. I’m sure A LOT of people will be doing that. I’d recommend wearing a lightweight shirt for him. As for you, I think you have a lot of different choices. If it is diruing the day you could wear a sundress. If it is at night, I wouldn’t wear a sundress. You can find A LOT of nice dresses for a little money. I’d recommend going to a discount store like T-J Maxx or Marshalls. They have a lot of nice (but not formal) dresses for a little money. Good luck!!!! (Oh yeah, if it says “coat and tie” he has to wear a coat and tie–no doubt about it).
People from the South tend to be a little ‘backwards’ @ times….Sorry just my opinion I mean why would you have a ‘coat & tie’ wedding in August outdoors!!!!! Depending on time of day I’m not sure about the color of suit. I prob wouldn’t say you had to do black, but not so sure about the navy blazer either.. You could probably get away with a nice grey or even Dk brown>Depending on color you decided to wear. Always complement one another 🙂 If he were to wear a nice patterned shirt underneath as the night progressed and people relaxed a bit he could remove jacket unbutton and roll up sleeves and still look stylish. >I know this is a more metropoliton look than the south may be use to but…. 😉 For yourself I would wear a nice sheath dress similiar to this Nicole Miller http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2985094?tuid…
