How to crochet a vest?

One of the latest fashion trends are crocheted clothing, and vests continue the trend into summer and fall. Crocheting, knitting, and other needle arts date back over a thousand years. Many people have returned to doing the traditional crafts. There are lots of reasons that people love crocheting. It is an easy craft to learn and fun to do. It has been proven that crocheting and knitting helps lower stress and gives a state of calm. Some people just like the feeling of accomplishment and pride of doing something with idle time. Yarn colors have a soothing effect also. Crochet tools are handy and small enough to carry in a bag or purse. It can be a social hobby where groups meet or it can be just a solitary effort.

If you would like to crochet a vest for yourself you should start with something plain and simple. First measure your hips and crochet a starting chain 1/2 to 1" longer. You can use a single crochet for the vest or a double or triple crochet. The difference is the height of the stitch. After you make your chain, crochet rows up to where there would be sleeves. Turn and crochet up to the shoulder, cut the yarn and finish off. Attach yarn to other side of front and crochet up to the other shoulder. When you finish off and attach yarn to same stitch, crochet across back and work into last stitch of the other front. Continue crocheting until measurement is same as fronts. After sewing the shoulder seams together, you now have a vest!

With a vest, do you need sleves? Ok, measure around your hips and crochet a chain about 1/2 to 1″ longer. I don’t know if you have a pattern or not or if you like open work. If you like like you can contact me and let me know , if you have a pattern, if you want some open work, if you want it solid but want to make single, double or triple crochet. If I don’t get back to you today I will be back on here tomorrow with the info for you. ((((())))))))))))) When you have made your chain do your rows up to where you would have the sleeves. Turn and go up to the shoulder. Finish off and cut the yarn. Attach the yarn to the other side of the front and do the same. Attach the yarn to the same stitch and crochet across the back and into the the last stitch of the other front. Work until it measures the same as the fronts. Sew the shoulder seam and you have a vest.
