How to convert a fraction into a mixed number?

0

I’m assuming you’re taking about an improper fraction a mixed number. Let’s say 3/2. To convert it to a mixed number you have to ask yourself how many times does 2 go into 3? Your answer should be 1. So what’s the remainder? 1. So the mixed number is 1 and 1/2 written 1 1/2. Sorry there were two many 1s in that problem. I’ll show you again with another set of numbers. Let’s try 5/2. Step 1) How many times does 2 go into 5? Answer to step 1) 2 Step 2) What’s the remainder? Answer to step 2) 1 Step 3) Put them together Answer to step 3) 2 1/2. To go backwards from a mixed number to an improper fraction is much simpler. Let’s try 3 1/2. You multiply the big number with the denominator. The denominator is the number at the bottom of the fraction. So 3 times 2 is 6 and then you add the numerator which is the number on the top. So 6 + 1 = 7. This answer replaced the numerator and the denominator stays the same. So 7/2.
