One problem can be removing the element. It requires a large socket wrench as it is not easy getting another type tool in the limited space. Other info is all correct as far as turning off power and etc. I usually don’t drain the tank. by stuffing a towel under the element and having the new one ready to go, ya can take the one out and quickly install the old and only lose a cup of water the towel will catch, not recommended for first time tryers !!..better to drain the tank as said. Tanks should be drained at least once a year anyway. Not really an easy job the first time ya try, but not a difficult one either. By the way, to drain the tank ya hook a garden hose to the spigot at the bottom, run the hose outside usually, open inside faucets and open the drain spigot on the tank. Is also a good idea to pop the lever on the pressure regualtor, usually located at the top of the unit, maybe side, biut it has a kinda handle on it that ya pull up so it is straight up or out from the regulato
