How to catch a ribbon snake?
Don’t worry, you won’t get sick if she bites you. Her saliva doesn’t have any toxins that can make a person sick; only frogs and fish. Also, their bites don’t hurt much, if at all. I got bit by a garter snake a couple of years ago and about the only ill effect from that was my shock of having a snake attached to my thumb. When you first pick her up, you will possibly get musked. The smell is foul, but washes off easily and that’s about the worst she’ll have to offer. When I first got my variable kingsnake, she tried to escape whenever I tried to pick her up. I decided to get a snake-cave which exo-terra makes (available at most pet stores). She naturally went in there and I was able to take the cave out, remove the lid and get a hold of her without all the stress of chasing her around the terrarium. Since then, I’ve used it for all my snakes in getting them used to being handled.
