To make a pinewood derby car you will first need to choose a style, they draw your design on the wood. Cut or carve your car, then sand it smooth. Paint and decorate your car however you like and let dry. Tap the axels with one tire attached through your car, then attach the other tire, making sure you have a 1 3/4 inch space between the tires so your derby car will fit the track. You can add up to 5 ounces of weights to properly balance your car. Be sure to test your car on an elevated surface for smooth running before entering your Pinewood Derby.
