How to borax a deer tail?
You’re doing just fine. Salt draws out the moisture. Borax acts as a cure. After a week or so, just brush off any loose borax, and mount the tail to a display board, skin side down. I’m assuming you opened up the tail and removed the bone. The result should be a fan-like section of skin, surrounded by the tail hair. BTW, if it turns out you don’t really want it as a decoration, fly tyers will be glad to take it off your hands. Bucktail is a component of many flies.
