How to blend new drywall with existing when it comes to painting?

We had to replace a large section of drywall right in the centre of a wall in our living room and I was wondering what the best techique would be to blend the new drywall into the old so it you don’t see the sanded drywall mud lines. Everytime I have patched a part of the old drywall and painted over it, you can see where the new drywall is by the sanded mud, so I am hoping there is a better technique to hide this.
