How to Become a Horse Riding Instructor?
I am a riding instructor, as a hobby. I have an actual job and I teach lessons in the evenings. To become a riding instructor, you need to be old enough. Most places aren’t interested in hiring people under 18. I personally feel you should be a more experienced rider than those you are teaching. You need good solid knowledge of the fundamentals of riding, or else you won’t be able to explain it to your students. You should be able to tell them the how’s AND why’s of riding. If you squeeze with your leg here, or shift your seat there, the horse will react a certain way for a certain reason, and you should know that and be able to explain it in a way they can understand. A lot of really good riders can’t verbalize it well. I knew a girl who wasn’t the strongest rider herself, but she sure understood riding and could explain it very clearly, and that made her a great instructor. The pay usually sucks.
