You can ask her for a date. It would be dinner at restaurants, movie, long walk , coffee, or dinner at your place. Tell her that you like her and want to know more so that you can spend some quality time together. Choose a nice venue for the first date that helps you to create a nice impression on her.
You’re right, you should get to know her but I’d get know something about her before you go ahead and ask her on a date. I wouldn’t be cheeky unless that’s your nature because if you spend a long time deciding on a one-liner and she says something back, you may not have enough time to think about how to respond.
