akannan Teacher Middle School eNotes Editor The fundamental premise involved in determining the need or effectiveness in different management styles is being able to assess what method works well for both management and subordinates. In some instances, an autocratic manager style, where unilateral decision making is the norm, might be warranted. In other settings, it might be best to take a permissive stance, where subordinates are included in the decision making process. The manager might have to make the determination as to which method works based on both situation, type of composition of employees, as well as other factors that might determine increased productivity as well as effectiveness and subordinate moral. In the final analysis, one can best analyze the different styles of management based on situation and contingencies which can help determine success.
