The images are compressed by lossy JPEG, but any loss of detail has been judged to be imperceptible. The Image Compression menu controls the compression ratio which affects the trade-off between the viewing speed and the image quality. Higher compression generates smaller image sizes, which are faster to transfer over the network, at the cost of slightly lowering the image quality.
