How to access locked objects like Bookshelves?
Gothic 3 locks certain objects in advance, so that NPCs that are still on their way to that object will defiantly be able to use it. E.g. once a NPCs is sleepy, “his” bed will be locked. There are several other things that the nameless Hero might want to access, but are locked: Shrines, Beds, Bookshelves, or the Millstone in Geldern. Tip: The trick is to use the daily routine of the NPCs to your advantage. E.g. beds will be used after midnight, so try to grab a bed in the early evening hours. It is probably more interesting to access new Bookshelves, because they yield +5 Alchemy or +5 Ancient Knowledge. Wait until midnight (or sleep until midnight in a bed), talk to the NPC standing in from of the Bookshelf, this will trigger his “night-cycle”, letting you use the Bookshelf.
