How three phase motors self starterted?
A 3 phase motor, as the name suggests, has 3 windings for each phases. When a 3 phase electric supply is imposed on the stator windings, the resultant magnetic field will be ‘physically’ rotating around the coil of winding and through the air gap and into the rotor. The rotor gets currents ‘induced’ by this rotating magnetic field and then ‘follows’ the stator magnetic field in an attempt to reduce the ‘slip’. Donkey and carrot is an equivalent in linear motion!
