How things change for women after WWII in the work place?

To understand what happened after WWII, first you have to know what happened during WWII. So many able-bodied men were being shipped off to fight that the workplace needed to hire women to do jobs that had only been done by men prior to that time. Women worked in factories and did physical labor because (1) they needed the income and (2) the workforce was short of men. When the war ended, many men returned to work at the factories, etc. and many women found themselves out of work. This led to the beginning of the baby boom and a time of great prosperity for the US. The war had brought great gains to the economy and people got married and had kids with the mother staying home. This remained the norm until the late sixties/early seventies when the economy started getting rough again.
