How thick is the berlin wall?
This sounds like a weird answer, but it’s really not. The two walls were different thicknesses depending on where they were. In the area around the Brandenburg Gate, the wall was many feet thick and it curved toward West Berlin. They were afraid someone would try to use a tank to batter their way through the wall at that symbolic location, so they made the wall really strong there. In other places, the wall was a concrete slab with a piece of concrete pipe on top of it; these were made at a factory and trucked to the site. In some places the Wall was made of steel mesh. And along the Spree River, which separates the two sides of the city along part of its length, there is no wall along the western bank–they had a concrete wall on the east side and a chain link fence running down the middle of the river.
