How the world saw Mussolini in power?
Mussolini was admired by some, including the Argentinian dictator Juan Peron. In the 1920’s and 30’s it did appear that he had modernized Italy and rebuilt it from the wreckage of World War 1, and in some cases this was true, but he was very highhanded in his methodology. Others despised and ridiculed Mussolini for his swaggering and bullying persona. The invasion of Abyssinia disgusted the world because this was a poor country which stood no chance against a modern world power armed with tanks, bombers, flamethrowers, and poison gas. Yet, no one dared to oppose Mussolini until he threw in with Hitler in 1940.
