How The Solar Irradiance Is Measured?
There are three types of methodologies or techniques that are used to measure solar irradiance. They are – (1) Broadband Measurement (2) Wideband Measurement (3) Narrowband Measurement (1) Broadband Measurement – Using this method, the complete solar spectrum is being measured. The factors that are measured using this type are as follows – • Direct solar irradiance • Diffuse sky solar irradiance • Downward total solar irradiance • Upward solar irradiance • Downward long-wave irradiance • Upward long-wave irradiance (2) Wideband Measurement – Using this method, the partial region of solar spectrum, approximately 10%, is being measured. Under this type of measurement, pyrhelimeter is used to measure direct solar irradiance and pyranometer is used to measure downward solar irradiance. (3) Narrowband Measurement – Using this method, the narrow range of the solar spectrum is being measured. By using radiometer, direct, diffuse and total solar irradiance can be measured. On the other hand, s
