Mega Doppler 13 is on top of a 60′ foot tower in northeast Fort Bend County. That’s just high enough to clear objects near the ground. A taller tower positions the radar beam too far above the ground to see some of the low level rotation in tornadic thunderstorms. Also, the farther the radar waves have to travel between the electronics cabinet and the antenna the weaker the beam becomes and the noisier the signal.
