How Tall Is The BT Tower?
The BT Tower a well known landmark in London located at Cleveland Street in the central part of the city is one of the tallest buildings in the UK standing 620 ft (188 m) including the aerial structure situated on top. The tower formerly known as the Post Office Tower and as the London Telecom Tower was built in 1964 by the GPO for telecommunication purposes to link London with various parts of the country; in the period from 1964 to 1981 when Tower 42 was completed the BT Tower was the tallest building in the UK. A popular feature of the tower is a restaurant located at the top of the tower which could be rotated along its axis; however following a bomb blast in 1971 the tower was closed to the public; the restaurant has since then reopened though it is used by BT primarily for corporate events.
