Born in the United Kingdom, some perceive her as a Viking type of woman: big, tall and strong. But Kate Winslet only stands a shade above five feet and six inches but die to her acting prowess, she has stood tall compared to many of her contemporaries. She has played many unforgettable roles from in stiff upper lip Marianne Norwood in “Sense and Sensibility”, as the adventurous Rose in “Titanic”, as the heartbreaker Clementine in “The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, the lovelorn Iris in “The Holiday” and now her Oscar Best Actress Winning Role as the Nazi camp guard Hanna Schmitz in “The Reader”. She has played period pieces, heavy drama, light comedies and even mega budgeted movies. Since winning the acting plum, she admits to be obsessed at looking at the statuette and feeling that this can’t be happening as if in an out of body experience. She firmly believed that Meryl Streep would be winning the award for her performance in “Doubt”.
