How sustainable is Belgian society?
Over the last few years concern about the current state and the future of the world has grown constantly, These worries are aggravated by the growing awareness of warnings about what the planet can bear. Over the last thirty years the focus of public debate has been on effective management of energy and raw materials. A major motivation for research on energy efficiency is raising awareness of the quality and the degradation of energy. The analysis of Belgian exergy for 2003 can contribute to this. Exergetic analysis is already carried out by official national statistics bodies in most western countries. These analyses quantify the clearing, import and export of energy sources, their conversion into other sources, and detailed analysis of different types of user. Most of the data are summarised and compared, in monetary or other terms.
