How supportive is the Indian government in terms of regulatory approvals?
The government bodies like the Drug Controller General of India (DGCI) have been very supportive in their contributing roles. CliniRx has been actively involved in a number of corporate bodies contributing to guidelines and directives for the CRO industry including joint activities with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) for the formulation of biotech devices directive. In order to support the growth of this sector the government needs to support the CRO sector in line with the tax benefits given to the IT industry. The support includes tax benefits to R&D facilities, and tax concessions for training to support development of the talent pool to encourage larger number of clinical trials in India. Accreditation of sites and principal investigators, based on globally accepted criteria is another important aspect for which government support would be welcome.
