How submarines float and sink?

Submarines use buoyancy to determine their depth. They have tanks that surround the hull that are filled with air or water to control their depth. When they want to go up towards the surface of the water they increase the amount of air in these tank. The opposite is true also, so if they want to go deeper in the water they remove some air from the tanks then water comes in and they go down.
