How strong is the competition and what format is used in the matches?

Avon’s core competition comes from the very competitive “Founder’s League” where we play against Hotchkiss, Choate, Taft, Kent, Westminster, Kingswood Oxford, Trinity Pawling, and Loomis Chaffee. We also compete against Cheshire Academy, Pomfret, Suffield, Canterbury, Salisbury and several strong public high school programs. Overall, Prep school tennis, especially the top tennis programs, is stronger than the top public high school teams. Prep school match format is the same as collegiate tennis. Three eight game pro set doubles matches are played first with the team winning two matches earning one doubles point. Six two out of three set singles matches follow with each match being worth one point for the team. The team that secures four points wins the match. Players can play both singles and doubles which is good training for collegiate tennis.
