How strong are the relations between Cape Verde and other Portuguese speaking countries in Africa?
We have a very good relationship with each of the Portuguese speaking countries. During the past few years we have strengthened relations with Angola and Mozambique. We export to Angola, and anticipate that, in the next few years with the peace programme in Angola developing, the market in this country will increase for us. We have created the conditions to develop stronger economic relations with Angola once peace has been achieved. We have a strong history with AngolaCape Verde played a very important role in the Cuban withdrawal from its borders. What role do you see Cape Verde playing on the AU? The AU is focused on reaching peace and stability in Africa through democracy. Our history and current position puts us in tune with the main objectives of the AU and we believe we can play a strong political role in the organisation.
