How strong are nylon fishing line?

Fishing line strength is denoted by a term called “test”. For example, if the line is rated as “3 pound test” it will generally handle a fish of around 3 pounds, give or take a half pound and considering how much of a fight the fish is putting up and the type of fish. I would take 3 different types of “test” and attach them to a bar and suspend weights on the other end starting with the rated “test” and then go up by a pound until the line snaps. Hope this helps!
