How stable and secure is Drupal as a platform for development?

A. We are using Drupal 6.x which is stable and well tested. The Drupal open source community actively audits the security of Drupal and contributed modules. Security alerts are sent out often after fixes are available. For this reason, updating Drupal and its modules is a critically important security task to prevent exploits of Drupal vulnerabilities and our Debian package management solution makes pushing out updates to all sites a snap. With that said, Drupal is simply more prone to attack than a static HTML website and also more prone to bugs and downtime given it’s complex software stack. This is one of the tradeoffs we make for a vastly increased feature set that enables us to build interactive web sites that more deeply engage the communities and audiences we serve.
