• A: After giving birth, a woman can become pregnant as soon as she starts having unprotected sex. Breastfeeding mothers are least likely to become pregnant only if they are breastfeeding exclusively and on demand for the first six months of her child’s life. After that period she is advised to use a contraceptive method such as the progesterone only pill or condom with the advice of her health care worker or her doctor.
