How smelly is dog breath?
It depends on the dog, just like with people. Some dogs hardly smell at all. Others have horrible breath. My German Shepherd doesn’t smell to bad unless she’s eaten something bad, but my Grandma’s Chihuahua has really bad breath all the time. If the dog’s teeth are clean then that helps too. With most dogs (if their teeth are clean) it is kind of like the wet dog smell. It isn’t exactly bad, just not exactly good either.
One of my dogs has almost completely odorless breath, and always has. The other smells like she’s just eaten roadkill when she breathes on you, and again, it has always smelled this badly since she was a puppy. They are both eating the same food, are the same breed, size, sex, etc… and have exactly the same dental care and general oral health. So it can just depend on the dog. Bad oral health can also contribute to bad breath, but some dogs are going to have terrible breath regardless of a healthy mouth.
