How small are the island hoppers?
It depends on which airline you choose. TwinAir has small planes that seat seven or so passengers. If you fly on a small plane, your luggage will be restricted to forty or fifty pounds. It will be weighed. The trip is a great adventure. The view is fantastic! SouthernAir provides a larger plane and the trip from Nassau to Eleuthera is short – 25 minutes or so. Bahamasair has the largest plane which seats 50 or so passengers. Pineapple Air also flies from Nassau to Eleuthera. If you fly on TwinAir and check in early, you can go get lunch before your afternoon flight. You have to follow all of the FAA flight rules, but the atmosphere is a lot more relaxed than in a full size airport. The Lynx ticket counter and departure area is in the main Ft. Lauderdale airport on the bottom level. For both airlines, you walk outside to board the plane. It’s a good idea to have an umbrella with you, especially during summer months.
