How Significant Is the Vaticans New Order Barring Gays From Seminaries?

0

Homosexually-oriented men have long been a very important source of Roman Catholic priests. The success of the gay rights movement has given such men other options in life beyond celibacy or dishonest heterosexual marriage, thereby contributing to shortages of priests. This new order will surely exacerbate those shortages, which in turn may contribute to the ongoing decline of the Catholic Church in Western societies. From my perspective, discrimination against gays (a bad thing) may help to weaken a homophobic organization (a good thing), so it may kind of balance out.
