How should we compare and evaluate urban land surface models?
Martin Best, Met Office, Wallingford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom In this presentation we will present an overview of the issues surrounding the comparison and evaluation of urban land surface schemes for use within meso-scale models. We will start with a discussion on the use and application of land surface schemes for cities in an atmospheric model, before presenting a summary of the current modelling approaches. We will then look at the way in which these models have been evaluated to date and discuss the issues of comparing such models to observations. Finally we will assess how we can compare between different types of urban land surface models and suggest a planned infrastructure for an urban model intercomparison experiment.
