How should the SEP be used to help with development of a programs Integrated Master Plan/Integrated Master Schedule or Single Acquisition Management Plan?

Sound technical planning, including systems engineering best practices, should be the basis for a strong program plan and schedule. From this standpoint, a program’s SEP would serve as a key input to planning and scheduling of overall program activities in the Integrated Master Plan/Integrated Master Schedule (IMP/IMS) or Single Acquisition Management Plan (SAMP). An example of this relationship of systems engineering to program planning is the definition of the program’s critical path. While a program’s critical path is defined in the IMS, many of the key events that comprise that critical path would be derived from the detailed technical planning found in the SEP.
