How should the hardwood flooring be cleaned?

Not with water. Let me qualify that. If there is an accidental spill of something or another, by all means wipe it up with a slightly dampened mop or rag, but for regular maintenance, you must use an appropriate hardwood flooring cleaner. Water, as well as leaving water spots all over your lovely, gleaming surface, can in time work its way into any pores or micro checks and discolor into a grayish stain. Also it would cause, at first only a slight swelling of the wood fibers, but in time this would get more and more so, causing the micro checks to get larger and so on…I am sure you get the picture. And it gets even worse if there is vinegar in the water.
