How should the Bar/Bat Mitzvah child dress for the ceremony?
Appropriate attire for the ceremony is VERY casual. In the winter months, boys should wear long, light colored (khaki or white) pants and a long sleeve white shirt. For the warmer months, similarly colored pants and a short sleeve, white t-shirt or polo. For girls, dresses and, skirts in the same colors are appropriate. What happens when we get to Israel? When do we meet the Rabbi? After your first several days in Israel and before the Bar/Bat Mitzvah, you will meet with the rabbi who will be officiating. He will walk your child through the entire ceremony, explaining the order of reading from the Torah. He may even ask you to lead a prayer in English during the ceremony. The rabbi will make sure you and your child are fully prepared for the Bar/Bar Mitzvah!
