How should the Ax be setup with an external flash for studio work?

Connect the flash trigger cord to the PC terminal on the left side of the camera (unscrew the little round cap over the terminal and don’t lose it!). Set the camera to manual mode. The camera will not “know” there is going to be a flash and set the exposure accordingly, so use manual mode and don’t bother with the live-view histogram. In manual mode, to avoid the live preview from going dark when you half-press the shutter, you need to: • under record menu 3, set display priority for manual exposure, • under record menu 4, set AE lock to “off”. The playback histogram is still a great tool for judging exposure in the studio, after the fact.
