Harold Johnson came up with the name Raistlin intending it to signify “Wasting Man,” as well as Caramon which means “Caring Man.” The authors, including Weis, therefore, pronounce it so that Raist rhymes with Waste as intended, but fans may (and do) pronounce it in varying ways.
