How should I write an art critic for a painting?

I think you mean art critique dude. There are lots of ways to do it. You can use what’s known as the ‘formalist’ approach. That means you need to understand things like line, symmetry, tones, depth, sight lines and things like that, and them use your understanding to explain why you think the artist did a good or a bad job of it. I think you might find it easier to use a more emotional, or visceral response. That means you look at the painting and you say what you feel, that first gut impression you get from it. Do you like the colours he used? If so, why? Do they remind you of a certain thing you like? Can you understand what’s going on in the picture? Does it have recognisable objects or people in it? If it does, then it is ‘figurative’ because you recognise the figures in it. Talk about whether you think the painting accurately shows these figures, and if the artist has done them in a stylised, weird sort of way, say why you like or dislike that style. If it is something like a bunc
