How should I take account of the potential impact of poultry farm emissions to PM10 concentrations?
A small number of authorities have identified potential exceedences of the PM10 objectives associated with emissions from poultry farms1. Poultry farms were not specifically identified as a cause of concern within LAQM.TG(03). There is only limited information related to emissions of PM10 from poultry farms, and at this stage no Detailed Assessments have been completed. The larger poultry farms (those housing more than 40,000 birds) are due to come under PPC regulation in 2007. Some monitoring studies in the vicinity of poultry farms are underway, but there are currently insufficient data to draw any firm conclusions. Click here for more details. At this stage, unless the authority is aware of any local circumstances that indicate an exceedence of the PM10 objectives is likely, there is no need to take any further action. Assistance may be obtained from the Helpdesks if required. Further guidance will be provided as and when new information becomes available. 1. Defined as chicken layi
