How should I monitor someone taking a statin?
• Monitor lipid levels: • At baseline, 8 weeks after starting treatment or after any dose increase, and thereafter annually. • Monitor creatine kinase (CK): • At baseline, and thereafter, only check CK if symptoms of muscle disorder are reported. • Monitor transaminases: • At baseline, 8 weeks after starting treatment or after any dose increase, and thereafter annually. • Alanine aminotransferase is usually used (aspartate aminotransferase is used less commonly).
