How should I go about introducing two cats for the first time?

An added note – You said the male cat used to be quite feral – a cat is either feral or it is not. You see, when applied to domestic cats, the word feral means that the cat was born and raised with no contact with humans and consider humans to be threats to be avoid. If they are trapped at an early age, not past about 3 or 4 months of age, it is possible to tame a feral cat but it takes a lot of time, patience, and experience. I suspect that when you say “… who used to be quite feral.” You mean that the cat was, at one time, quite unfriendly to other cats and/or to humans. Taming a feral, even one who is as young as 8 or 9 weeks, can take months and if the feral is too old, past 13 or 14 weeks of age, it might not be possible to fully tame them. Feral cats have to be trapped, they won’t let you handle them and if you try you will probably be bitten and badly scratched. I doubt that the male cat you are talking about was ever a feral cat. ——————- Start of original answer t
