First you have to up the class time a bit. For high school age you should be taking at least 20-30 hours of dance classes a week. Make sure you are taking lots of ballet even if you wish to pursue another type of dance.Competition dancers only seem to get jobs teaching competition dancers and doing master classes. If you want a career as a professional dancer, competition dance is not the way to go. Hopefully you are in a school that offers strong dance technique. Next to body type and facility, training is everything. You should be doing Summer Intensives. Most of the auditions are over now except for a few that are held in March for the month of August not July. That would be MYB, BAE and CPYB has a shortened August SI after their main SI in July.
