The collection tube leading into the collection container should penetrate the cap of the collection container or some other stopper type device in the opening of the collection container. The collection tube should not simply be draped into the open collection container. The container should be marked with the constituents of the effluent. This collection set-up is not a satellite accumulation area (SAA) and should not be labeled as such. Once the researcher can no longer use the effluent and determines it to be hazardous waste, the container must be labeled with a properly completed red tag and placed in a designated SAA or less than 90-day storage area.
