How should candy canes be crushed?
Food processors can reduce canes to chunks or a fine powder. In order to achieve a texture and size variety, peppermints can be crushed using the “hammer” method: • Enclose canes or peppermint candies in a re-sealable plastic bag. • Place the bag on a firm or solid surface with a towel underneath the bag (to prevent scratching, marring or indenting the surface). • Place another towel over the bag. • “Hammer” the candy with a rolling pin, skillet, or – yes – a small hammer or rubber mallet until pieces reach the desired consistency.
