How Should An American Correctly Dispose Of A Tattered, Old Flag?
There is a proper ceremony for American flag disposal, which is conducted on the Flag day, June 14th. The proper procedure is to burn serviceable flags, at night in the presence of full honor guard, in the presence of concerned Military officials. There are various organizations which collect old flags like Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, the American Legion and other organizations and regularly conduct dignified flag-burning ceremonies. So the best way would be to handover your old flag to one of these organizations.
