How should a wig or hair system be prepared for tape or adhesive bonding?
Most factory made wigs and hair systems are made using French or Swiss Lace wig caps. French and Swiss Lace Material is a matrix of small holes, similar to window screen. To make the intended wig or hair system, hair is tied to the matrix material. What most manufacturer’s ignore during the wig making process is preparing a bonding area, so tape or adhesive does not destroy the wig or hair system from regular bonding, removal, and cleaning procedures. When tape or adhesive is applied to an unprepared (no bonding area) wig or hair system for securing it for wearing, it is applied directly to the underside of the wig or hair system where the hair has been tied from the top side to the matrix material. This method of securing the wig for wearing is common, however, it does not protect a wig or hair system from continued removal of from damaging the hair when cleaning away the tape or adhesive.
